FRANKLIN ALEXANDER McGINTY
SOUNDMAN THIRD CLASS, USNR

FRANKLIN ALEXANDER McGINTY, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on 22 November, 1911, was killed as a result of enemy action, the presumptive date of his death being 5 August, 1943.
 
McGINTY received the NAVY CROSS with the following citation:
 
"For extraordinary heroism while serving aboard the U.S.S. PLYMOUTH during and after the sinking of that vessel on 5 August, 1943. When there was an underwater explosion amidship, causing devastating fires and extensive damage, McGinty unhesitatingly risked his life in behalf of his endangered shipmates. In a courageous attempt to rescue a man known to be trapped in a ship's flaming armory, McGinty entered the compartment and was himself trapped. He gallantly gave his life in the service of his country.
 
The ship was sponsored by his step sister, Mrs. Henry T. Malone.
